WHEREAS, "Built to Last" is the theme for Building Safety Month 2026, and the city �" `. - �T`

I encourages everyone to learn about the importance of building safety on a personal and
• 1 local level, especially when disaster strikes; and

WHEREAS, Tigard is committed to the professional regard for the International Code •

Council, a nonprofit organization, in bringing together experts in the built environment to _
i - create and implement the highest-quality codes and standards to protect the buildings 14te _:
where we live, learn, work and play; and
WHEREAS, building safety, resilience and economic investment is reflected in our �._
community's growth and strength thanks to the vigilance of professionals in architecture,
',4 engineering, construction, and the skilled trades, including laborers, plumbers and others— t--..
who work year-round to ensure the safe construction of buildings; and v".i-
WHEREAS, resilient community structures in Tigard are realized with support and A
consultation from Tigard's building professionals-the Building Official, Plans Examiners, ,�`,'
Building Inspectors, Permit Technicians, Code Officials and others who administer modern _ . . ,w
' ` - building codes and standards to protect the public from hazardous construction, especially ti
=, in emergencies like storms, wildfires, floods and earthquakes; and -.; ;
I ^-\I , WHEREAS, Building Safety Month reminds the public that Tigard Building Division staff
"` review and issue building permits for residential and commercial building projects, new -`'�c, •
I`"•'' construction, interior remodels, additions, and demolitions. The division also reviews and
issues trade permits for plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, and solar w • :7
r 2 installation to ensure modern building and safety codes are employed to prolong the life
and safety of structures throughout the city.
