WHEREAS, in 1872, Arbor Day, a special day set aside for the planting of trees, was first ;."
celebrated in Nebraska; and r i.

. WHEREAS, Tigard's urban forest is part of a larger ecology that spans from mountains to I �.- ,
r ocean and is integral to our region's environmental quality; and g g f_

\.•r, WHEREAS, Tigard's urban forest includes a diversity of public and private trees that grace our ,'",, f•
. .., streets, yards, parks, and greenways; provide habitat for wildlife; soften hardscapes; clean the ,� {

Y ' air; protect water resources; and ensure that everyone can experience natural beauty where '.: ,,,
we live, work, and play; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tigard recognizes that its urban forest is a necessity and an integral r
„: part of the city's infrastructure; and ''
WHEREAS, the City is committed to providing resources to maintain and enhance the urban '•.',,�j

WHEREAS, people of all ages and backgrounds, including residents, civic organizations, 1; •,
businesses, and government agencies, have formed partnerships to actively participate in the ^'r I
stewardship and care of Tigard's urban forest. '
