The two items,and our recommendations are listed below: 1. Header stops 34"short of 6x6 king stud post. The required bearing length for the header in question is only 1 ':', with total support of two studs. Our firm recommends approval of the current framing, with the shim installed as shown in the attached picture. 2. Garage stem walls were poured 15"in length,and the distance from the top of stem walls to the header is Approximately 4'-11" The plans show 16"-long stem walls and a maximum distance of 4'-8"from top of stem walls to bottom of header. We were informed that Simpson HDU5-SDS2.5 hold-down brackets were installed in place of the HDU2-SDS2.5 brackets specified on the plans. The use of the HDU5-SDS2.5 brackets provide an additional 83.6%of capacity. Based on the calculations attached,the tension forces in the hold-downs only increased by 12.4%. Therefore,we recommend approval of the shear walls and hold-downs at this location,as it is currently constructed. Our firm appreciates the opportunity to serve you.
