05/08/2019 - Minutes City of Tigard Tigard Public Library Board Minutes MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,May 8, 2019 7:00 p.m. MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Conference Room, Second Floor 1. CALL To ORDER: Chair Harris called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Members Present: Mary Bogert, Becky Gauthier, Katie Harris,Jean Hart, Kate Ristau Members Unexcused: Joseph Callahan Alternates Present: Shirley Edwards,Nina Kung Council Liaison: Heidi Lueb Staff Present: Interim Co-Director of Library Services Halsted Bernard and Confidential Executive Assistant Margaret L. Reh 3. APPROVE MINUTES The minutes from the April 3,2019 Board meeting were reviewed. No changes were requested. Motion by Mary Bogert. Second by Kate Ristau to approve the April 3, 2019 minutes. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS Katie suggested we add a Call to the Public agenda item as we had a visitor at the meeting. 5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC Gail Stephens was in attendance. Gail has been a volunteer at the library for the past seven years. Gail is interested in applying for the Library Board and wanted to attend a meeting to see what it was all about. Katie Harris welcomed Councilor Lueb to the meeting. 6. LIBRARY OPERATIONS Halsted Bernard reported on all the exciting things that happened at the library during the month of April. The annual survey was completed. The results of the survey will be compiled and posted to the City website. The summer teen volunteer program is ramping up to begin in June. Many staff members were able to attend the OLA/WLA Conference that took place in Vancouver,Washington. Lots of progress has been made on the new teen space. The walls have been painted. The library will be opening late on Thursday, May 16 to give staff time to complete a large, noisy collection shift safely. Halsted suggested the group take a tour to see the progress of the teen space at the completion of this meeting. She recently represented Tigard Library on a panel with other representatives from local libraries to talk with the Coalition about the needs of our patrons experiencing homelessness and how we can best work together to connect patrons with the resources they need. The Library Director vacancy has been posted.This will be a national search.The City Manager is hoping to have the position filled by the end of July. The March and April 2019 Statistical Reports were distributed to the Board. 7. JOINT CITY COUNCIL/LIBRARY BOARD RECAP Everyone thought the meeting went well.They were especially pleased with the representation of the Teen Council members and how they communicated their excitement for the new teen space with the Council. Katie Harris thanked everyone for their parts in preparing for and participating in the meeting. 8. OTHER BUSINESS Biblioevents is a new add on component to the Bibliocommons catalog.A patron can search for materials by keyword and see results for events related to the subject at libraries throughout WCCLS. Nina Kung mentioned the multilingual story time grant that Martin Blasco at WCCLS was awarded and asked if Tigard Library would participate. Halsted explained that although Tigard opted to not participate in this inaugural year,we would consider participating in the future. 9. ADJOURNMENT Chair Harris adjourned the meeting at 7:28 p.m.The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board is scheduled for Wednesday,June 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Conference Room.
