1. Entry Options
Entry options were discussed for the purpose of giving the architects some
direction for preparing their cost estimates.
Using a working model of the lobby and entrance area to the building, the
architects presented two options for the entry. The committee directed
the architects to oe-r-W'Je the "stepped' version, of a covering between the
library and the town hall/administrative area with the suggestion to
extend the covering behind the "face" as sketched in the drawings. The
reasons are (a) to provide some covered area both for traffic between the
buildings and for the citizens attending public meetings, (b) to attract
people approaching the building to the park as well as to the buildings
through the design of the roof , and (c) not to build a structure which
appears "heavy" and dark.
2. Other Business
a. Windows were discussed briefly with the committee deciding to wait
till general cost estimates for different options are available.
Staff expressak- need to have some operable windows. Concerns about
the teak exterior—mahogany interior are the ease in cleaning the
windows without damaging the wood with chemicals, both pro and con
feelings on the overall appearance, the desire to have commercial
grade materials, the warm appearance wood lends to the building, and
the budget if they are not all inoperable. Alternatives discussed
are aluminum outside and wood inside, a different type for the sides
along the park, or different aluminum types.
b. Natural light in the lobby. At this time there is one row of windows
extending the distance of the "spine" on the north side. The
committee expressed the desire to add a row to the south side also
and the costs that will need to be added,
C. Colors in the interior. This will be discussed at the next meeting.
