Alder Street Portland, Oregon 972ia Dear Mr. Plowman: Re: Present Peddlar (PC 4659) Washington Square Confirming our telephone conversation of January 24, the plans for the alteration project of that space formerly occupied by Rug Crafters have been examined with reference to fire safety renulations. As mentioned in our discussion, the secondary means of exit from the sales area must not pass through the storage room. That is, the pith of exit must be physically separated from the storage space by a wall or similar bulkhead to the effect that the means of egress is well defined. The width of the corridor must be not less than 44 inches. The automatic sprinkler protection installed within this space must be adjusted to accommodate this new arrangement. Automatic sprinkler heads located in the ceiling system must not be placed closer than 1 foot nor more than 7-1/2 feet from any wall , partition or similar bulkhead. Full sprinkler coverage is required and it is recommended that before any alteration to the system is made, complete plans therefore be submitted to and approved b" a representative of this office. In all wood framed walls and partitions firestopping consisting of 2-inch nominal lumber must be provided at ceiling lines. This includes the concealed space developed by the installation of furring strips. Penetrations made in this prescribed firestopping to accommAate wiring, plumbing, etc. . must be packed, following the installation of each utility run, i►I a manner which will effectively maintain the integrity of the firestopping and cut off all concealed draft openings which could afford a passage for flame. Inspection and approval of construction by a representative of this office is required: (1) prior to the cover of any new framing elements and (2) prior to opening the occupancy for business. Also, prior to opening the occupancy for business, a Certificate of Occupancy or other written, instrument of approval must be obtained from the Washington County Building Department.
