Provision of handicapped urinals should also be discussed with them. 4 . Code allows 50% of exiting through the lobby if it is provided with an automatic .sprinkler system. If lobby is used as exitway for core stair it will have a sprinkler system. F . Will Dodge indicated that Washington County has accepted a sprinkler system above and below the ceiling in lieu of 1 hour fireproofing on structural members if the sprinkler system is riot otherwise required. 6. Discussed 1 hour exit corridors. Will Dodge did not feel this requirement would be met by methods other than those described in code. I suggested the possibility of provid- !ng sprinklers above and uelow the ceiling in lieu of corridor walls extending to structure. This is a solution that has been used on other buildings we have dory thru the State Fire Marshall . Doors in walls would still have closures ani he 20 minute doors. Will indicated that he would not accept this unless the State Fire Marshall has ruled that this is acceptable. While we agree that reception areas and similar spaces may be an integral part of a corridor, we do not concur that the creation of such a space abrogates the 20-foot dead end limit. Please review the layout of this space in the context of the issue that although relatively short dead ends are permitted, it is a better practice to eliminate them as much as possible, for they increase the danger of people being trapped in case of fire.
