02/12/1979 - Minutes MINUTES 'Tigard Library Board February 12, 1979 Call to Order The regular meeting of the Tigard Library Board was called & Roll Call to order by Chairman Betsy Chick at 7:35 P.M. Absent: Jeri Cundiff Introduction of new Board member James Sidey was welcomed as the newest Board member. Reports Minutes of the previous meeting were approved. The monthly report was reviewed by the Librarian. It was suggested that the Library set up a means of soliciting suggestions for book purchase from patrons so as to get more citizen involvement in the Library. Discussion developed regarding the Library public relations program. It was suggested that the Library actively seek a volunteer to help with public relations. It was decided that a newspaper article announcing the Library's need would be tried as a recruit- ment device. Old Business: Librarian distributed copies of the new contract for 1979- Contract for 80 county serial levy funds. It was pointed out that the 1979-80 serial contract contains criteria developed by the WCCLS Ad- levy funds ministrative Guidelines Committee. Library Board Librarian reported that interviews had been held up, Candidates but the City Administrator indicated that an appointment to the Board would be made before the March meeting Budget Librarian told Board that some changes had been made in placementof certain items, i.e. ,the book budget item had been transferred to technical services. Word had been received that personnel costs would total $65,000 which will call for some adjustment of other items. Board agreed that removal of a lump sum from the shelving allotment would be most feasible. Computerized Librarian announced that she was working more closely with Circulation the Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) computerized circulation committee in planning the type of system to be used by the public libraries. She also announced various meeting and presentations which might be of interest to Board members. New Business: Librarian reported on the recent meeting of the Friends Building plans of Washington County Libraries. At that meeting it was decided that cities and libraries would be contacted re- garding their needs for capital improvements. The Board decided that a committee should be formed to produce a needs statement and also to formulate plans and drawings for a new building. Jim Sidey and Yvonne Burgess volunteered to form the committee. Public Relations Librarian explained that a public relations consultant Consultant would be working with Tigard Public Library as part of a tri-county (Multnomah, Washington & Clackamas) program to improve public relations for the Library.
