10/10/1978 - Minutes MINUTE$ TIGARD LIBRARY BOARD October 10, 1978 Call to order The regular meeting of the Tigard Library Board was called Roll Call : to order by Chairman Betsy Chick at 7:30 P.M. Excused: Jeri Cundi_ff and Irene Ertell. Reports: Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. VISTA Debby Smith, VISTA outreach worker, outlined program for getting library materials to senior citizen shut-ins, emphasizing need for volunteer group to manage the program after her year is finished. BUSINESS: Status of the CETA program was reviewed. Librarian had in- CETA cut-back dicated to Chairman that Library may well be affected inas- much as Claire Sheldon and Chrys Green face lay-off is funds are drastically reduced. It was noted that shortening hours might be necessary. Nancie Sti.mler suggested staying open same hours but fewer evenings. The Board concurred. Motion Jean Carlisle moved that the Librarian be authorized to use her discretion concerning hours and other necessary cutbacks. Motion was seconded and passed. Maternity Leave It was noted that City of Tigard is contemplating a. change in maternity leave policy to comply with Oregon State Law 659.029 which ways that maternity leave must be treated the same as regular sick leave. It was also noted that this would affect staff member, Kathy Tremaine, who plans to take maternity leave from December 1 to March 1, 1979. Washington County George Vaternick nominated Doris Hartig to serve on the Friends of Library Washington County Friends of the Library (organization established to receive funds for building libraries) . Motion was seconded and passed unanimously. WCCLS Admin. Proposed guidelines VO receiving county serial levy funds were Committee reviewed. Board recommended that the section dealing with fees be stated in way so that libraries may charge for services that are necessary for operation but not for those made possible by the serial levy. Open House It was noted that the outdoor sigh at St. Anthony's was successful in calling attention to the Open House on September 30. Meeting Time In discussing possible new Board members there was agreement that the meeting night could be changed to accomodate personal schedules. Intellectual Betsy, Jeri and Nancy planned to attend evening session of Freedom Workshop Intellectual Freedom Workshop on October 18. Yvonne and Jean planned tentatively for the 18th as well .
