Tigard Public Library Board Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday, September 12, 2018 7:00 p.m.
MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Conference Room, Second Floor
1. CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Katie Harris called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Members Present: Joseph Callahan, Becky Gauthier, Katie Harris,Jean Hart,
Lonn Hoklin, Kate Ristau
Members Absent: Mary Bogert
Alternate Present: Shirley Edwards, Nina Kung
Staff Present: Library Director Margaret Barnes
3. APPROVE MINUTES
The minutes from the August 8, 2018 Board meeting were reviewed. No changes
were suggested.
Motion by Lonn Hoklin. Second by Becky Gauthier to approve the August 8, 2018
minutes. The minutes were adopted unanimously.
4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
None were suggested
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Ramona Bell, Library Assistant-Circulation and Erik Carter, Adult Services Librarian
were the guests this evening. Each gave a brief overview of their areas of
responsibilities.
6. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
The Board talked briefly on community engagement.
At the August meeting the Board was introduced to the new film/movie streaming
service through a program called Kanopy which WCCLS now provides. There was a

follow up inquiry regarding if Kanopy can work on a television. Kanopy can be
streamed to a television screen with a device similar to Apple TV or Roku. It was also
shared that the movie Hollywood Librarian is available through Kanopy.
7. POLICY REVIEW
A. Public Computers Policy
The Board reviewed and discussed the Public Computers policy. This policy was
last reviewed on January 14, 2015.
Discussion ensued. It was decided to remove the word `storage' from item
number three.
3. The Library is not responsible for damage to users' devices or computers or for any loss
of data, damage or liability that may occur from use of the Library's computers.
Motion by Becky Gauthier. Second by Joseph Callahan to re-adopt the Public
Computers policy with this modification. Motion was approved unanimously.
B. Library Use Guidelines
The Board tabled the review and discussion of this policy to a future meeting.
8. OTHER BUSINESS
The New York Times article To Restore Civil Society, Start with the Library was
distributed to the Board.
9. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Harris adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m. The next meeting of the Tigard
Library Board is scheduled for Wednesday,October 10,2018 at 7:00 p.m.in the library
conference room.
