should have a plan for getting to school safely. Whether your children walk, bike,

Mayor's Corner: A Busy Summer on City Projects
As we enter the fall season, you will see some changes in city operations. Reductions have
been made to General Fund programs and services that reflect the funding priorities of

Rules of the Road: Solutions to Rising Collision Rates
The officer's report and the defendant's courtroom statement were in agreement: At a
stop sign in a Tigard residential neighborhood, the defendant had turned left in bright
sunshine onto a shaded residential street, striking a woman in a crosswalk. Fortunately,
the injured pedestrian was not among the hundred people who die in collisions every day

City Council Race and Vacancy Update
Six Tigard residents have filed to run for two openings on the City Council in the November
general election: Bill Banash, John Goodhouse, Bret Lieuallen, Jenny McCabe, A. Miranda
and Liz Newton. In addition, the council has voted to fill an upcoming council vacancy by
making an appointment in 2019. Council President Jason Snider has vacated his seat
effective Dec. 27, in order to run for mayor of Tigard. Applications for those interested in
this two-year city councilor appointment will be accepted this year for the appointment in

Project Begins this Fall to Replace Sewer Pipes at Cook Park
A portion of Clean Water Service's West Durham Basin Improvement Program will take
place at Cook Park beginning in October. The project will replace aging pipes and install
larger, more resilient pipes to improve wastewater capacity. Tigard residents can expect

City Council Recap for July
Acting as the Local Contract Review Board, the City Council approved the purchase of
mobile data computers for the police department, five new police vehicles and a hydro-
cleaning vehicle to meet regulatory requirements to flush and clean pipes. The council also
approved two ordinances to annex two parcels, effective 2018 and 2021. One annexation
is voluntary and the other is involuntary. Read more...
