Report (40) RECEIVED02 40 00 DEMOLITION MAY 22 Z018, PART 1-GENERAL CITY OF TIGARD 1.1 SUMMARY BUILDING DIVISION A. Section Includes: 1. Selective demolition of existing site improvements 2. Complete demolition of existing buildings 3. Removal of materials, fixtures, and equipment from the site. 1.2 SUBMITTALS A. Demolition Schedule: 1. Submit two copies of proposed schedule of demolition operations prior to start of demolition work. 2. Include in schedule,dates for shut off,capping,and continuation of utility services. 3. Include a detailed sequence for removal and disposal of materials, fixtures, distribution lines and equipment. 4. Coordinate demolition schedule with construction schedule to ensure uninterrupted construction operations. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Regulatory Requirements: 1. Comply with applicable codes and ordinances concerning demolition operations including removal and disposal of existing materials, fixtures,and equipment. 2. Where materials are suspected or known to contain hazardous materials including, but not limited to, friable asbestos fibers and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), stop work and notify Architect. 3. Comply with requirements of the State of Oregon, Department of Environmental Quality and Accident Prevention Division of Department of Commerce. 4. Comply with local environmental quality control requirements. B. Pre-Demolition Meeting: 1. Meet at the site with Architect's and Owner's Representatives. 2. Review location of existing service and utility lines. 3. Review Contractor's responsibility for protection of existing adjacent surfaces and buildings. 4. Demolition Project Number 116139 Page 1 1.4 SITE CONDITIONS A. Environmental Requirements: 1. p Sprinkle exposed soil materials and demolition with water to limit dust in the air. 2. Do not cause erosion of existing soil, flooding, contaminated runoff, and icing. B. Hazardous Materials: 1. Do not begin demolition until known hazardous (friable asbestos fiber and PCB) materials have been removed from the construction area. C. Existing Conditions: 1. The Owner assumes no responsibility for the conditions of structures to be demolished. D. Structural Requirements: 1. Do not use explosives for demolition work. E. Traffic Requirements: 1. Do not close or obstruct private access or public streets,access roads,parking areas, pedestrian walks,and required fire lanes without written permission from Owner's representative and authorities having jurisdiction. 2. Provide alternate routes around closed and obstructed areas when required by Owner's representative and authorities having jurisdiction. F. Utility Requirements:Provide emergency temporary utility service lines and equipment,and keep building in operation during accidental service line interruptions to existing site utilities and equipment, as acceptable to the Owner's representative and governing authorities. PART 2-PRODUCTS Not used. PART 3-EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Verification of Conditions: 1. Examine existing building and conditions under which building demolition work will be performed. Report items detrimental to safe and timely completion of work to the Architect. B. Notification of Owner: 1. Notify the Owner at least(10) ten days in advance of demolition operations in each area. 2. Indicate to the Owner,limits of areas required for vacation by Owner's personnel during each phase of demolition work. C. Protection During Complete Building Demolition: 1. Protect adjacent building and site improvements indicated to remain from damage during building demolition. 2. Provide slurry control to protect existing facilities from water damage during concrete and masonry sawing and drilling. 3. Protect existing streets,walks, curbs,paving,utilities,and landscaping. 4. Provide heavy dunnage and temporary barriers to protect existing adjacent surfaces from damage caused by demolition work. D. Utility Line Disconnection: 1. Shut off utilities serving the demolition areas after areas vacated by the Owner. 2. Disconnect and seal open ends of existing pipe and conduit lines to be abandoned, moved, and/or maintained. E. Preparation: 1. Install temporary perimeter fence and gate prior to starting demolition work. 2. Secure masonry and concrete wall sections prior to cutting free and removing sections from the existing building. 3. Locate concrete beams and joists with chalk orpainted lines on floorprior to coring structural concrete floor slabs. 3.2 BUILDING DEMOLITION A. Material Breakage: 1. Break materials into parts and remove existing structures prior to start of new construction. 2. Begin demolition at top of building and proceed to lowest floor. 3. Demolish structure above each floor level before damaging supporting members on lower levels. 4. Break framed walls into sections. 5. Punch 18 inch diameter holes in basement slabs at 20 feet on center each way. 6. Break concrete into small sections less than 6 feet square. JLR-Portland,OR Section 02 40 00 Mildren Design Group,P.C. Demolition Project Number 116139 Page 3 7. Break masonry walls into small sections less than 4 feet square. B. Material Removal: 1. Remove foundation walls and footings to 18 inches below finished grade. 2. Remove structural framing members and bearing walls and lower to ground by means of hoists, derricks, and other suitable methods. 3. Do not impose excessive structural loads of supporting structures. 4. Do not permit large sections of concrete to fall or be chuted to grade. 5. Do not use the existing building to support hoisting mechanism for lowering of concrete materials. 3.3 DISPOSAL A. Disposal of Demolished Materials and Equipment: 1. Contractor may place broken masonry and concrete with a maximum dimension of 12 inches in fill areas when acceptable to Soils Engineer. 2. Do not store, sell, or burn demolished or salvaged materials on site. 3. Remove cores,broken concrete,masonry,building materials,fixtures,and equipment from the site. 4. Remove concrete slabs on grade. 5. Remove basement foundation walls to two feet above basement slab. 6. Remove concrete slabs on grade and foundation walls to 2 feet or 18 inches below finished grade. 7. Transport debris to an approved and licensed land fill area. 3.4 COMPLETION A. Repair of Damaged Surfaces, Materials, and Equipment: Repair surfaces damaged by demolition work to existing or new condition as appropriate. B. Repair of Damaged Site Improvements: 1. Repair damage to existing surfaces,materials,equipment, site improvements,utility lines, and adjacent property to meet conditions existing prior to demolition operations. 2.
