Vista Structural Engineering,LLC,was asked to address the following field revisions for the above referenced
project.
1. Issue:All 31.°floor I-joist hangers were installed as top-flange hangers,nailed only at the top flange and
not nailed through the side holes of the hangers. The hangers are manufactured by USP Connectors,
Model#TI-10 17118.
Response:
The floor joists in question do not require uplift resistance at the ends, per the city-approved calculation
package. Per USP's design documentation, not installing limits the uplift resistance to 85 pounds at each
end of the joist;with no design uplift,the joist installation without nails into the joist meets all minimum
design requirements. Our firm recommends approval of the joist hangers as they are currently installed,
without nails into the joists.
