maintaining the quality of life in Tigard and contributing to the general well-being of a

WHEREAS, the Tigard City Council established a goal to expand recreational £'#'= r

*" WHEREAS, park and recreation programs build healthy, active communities and t .
serve the needs of people of all ages and abilities; and104111
y WHEREAS, park and recreation programs increase a community's economict =`
w _ prosperity through increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and
. employment; and
" WHEREAS, Tigard's parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological
beauty of our community is maintained with improved water quality, smart
tett development and preservation of wildlife habitat; andt °�

ti WHEREAS, TigarddIs Park & Recreation programs served more than 10,000 people
in 2017 through special events and adventures; and
" WHEREAS, the Congress first designated July as Parks and Recreation Month in
1985 and Tigard recognizes the importance of providing a place for children and
adults to connect with nature and have fun outdoors. gg '
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT 1, John L. Cook, Mayor of the City of
Tigard, Oregon, do hereby proclaim July as Park & Recreation Month and encourage
