Minutes Tigard Library Board October 13, 1986
Call to Order: 7:05 PM
Roll Call: Dick Bendixsen, Sue Carver, Amo DeBernardis, Vince Mataresse,
Walt Munhall, Dorene Thomas, Excused: Jane Miller. Guests:
Susan Mueller. Staff: Rarrin Hawes, George Anne Miller,
Bobby White.
Reports: Minutes of September meeting approved as distributed.
Monthly Report was discussed by Board. Librarian updated
information on WCCLS structure and governance issue and
progress of automation project. There was concern over
Motion the signage for the Civic Center. Munhall moved that a letter
be sent to City Administrator Bob Jean regarding the outdoor
signage, particularly on Hall Boulevard. DeBernardis
seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Librarian reviewed work
indicators which show an over all 34% increase in circulation
over last year.
Friends of the Library report was presented by Susan Mueller.
She announced that the Friends accepted the Board's
recommendation to "adopt" both Tigard area legislators, i.e. ,
purchase OLA memberships for them. The Friends have voted to
purchase area coat racks for the Library. They have sent out
a letter to a select list of previous respondents soliciting
funds for children's books. The Friends' program committee is
planning a series of presentations based on an interest survey
response. This is also designed as a fund raiser. Mueller
announced that she has signed up for the Oregon Library
Association (OLA) legislative network and will be the Friends'
contact for issues of concern to the Library.
ALTA (American Library Trustees Association) report was
presented by Sue Carver. Inasmuch as the Board has recently
Joined, Carver gave a review of the background materials
received. She has been designated as the Board's contact
person for ALTA and will report when appropriate.
Review of Librarian reported that items on the punch list are being taken
Punch List care of gradually. The temperature control in the study room
is still a problem.

Automation Librarian requested that the age at which a person may receive
a library card without parent/guardian signature be changed
from 14 to 12. Following discussion Mataresse moved same.
Munhall seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
City Council Board decided on issues to be discussed at November 17 meeting
Workshop with City Council. The Board decided by consensus to move
their regular meeting to 6:30 PM on November 17.
