Roll Call: Susan Grossen, Carl Kostol, Vince Matarrese, Leslie Wismer Excused: Linda Monahan Guest: Yvonne Burgess, Liz Newton Staff: Irene Ertell Reports: Minutes for the January 10, 1991 meeting were approved as written. Monthly report for January was distributed by Library Director. There was discussion on the new four person workstation and the Teen Impact project. Friends of the Library report was given by Yvonne Burgess. The Friends made $600 on the entertainment book sales. A small area rug for the parents' area will be purchased in memory of Beulah Shields, the deceased secretary of the group. Cooperative Library Adviso1y Board (CLAB) report was given by Yvonne Burgess, Tigard Representative. The capital needs study is continuing. A survey of current county library square footage was distributed. The Public Relations Committee is studying a new logo and developing a slogan to be used on various items. Library Policy Review Committee: The Library Director distributed proposed revisions for Library Board responsibilities and use of the library meeting room. Members will review and discuss at the March meeting. The proposed revisions for patron record confidentiality and request for consideration of library materials is awaiting comment by the City Attorney. Budget FY 1991-1992: Library Director distributed a summary of the proposed library budget for FY 1991-1992 and a more detailed outline for purchase of library materials. The Board asked the Library Director to prepare a statement to the City Administrator expressing their support of the budget as reasonable. Oregon Libra1y Association Conference: Carl Kostol will attend sessions at the conference on Friday, April 12, in Ashland. Two library staff members, a professional and a paraprofessional will attend pre-conferences and sessions during the regular schedule. Update: Library Director reported that the piano music on Sunday afternoon is too intrusive and will be discontinued immediately. Inquiry will be made determining if the piano can be used at the Senior Center. The John Tigard House project is gaining support and momentum. Plans are to refurbish the house for Education Service uses in time for the City September birthday celebration and then look into moving it to City property. The possibility of establishing a library satellite at Washington Square may be feasible when the mall embarks on an expansion/renovation project in two to three years.
