SUBJECT: Missing 3x Plate at Garage Door Shearwalls
Lateral Engineering
It has been reported to me that the sill plate of the "D/7" shearwalls specified
adjacent to the Garage door were constructed with 2x material instead of the
specified 3x material.
Additional 2x blocking is to be added on top of the existing 2x sill plate. The new
2x blocking is to be fastened to the existing top plate with 10d nails at 3 inches
on center staggered. The interior sheathing is to be edge nailed to the top 2x
blocking instead of the sill plate, to reduce the risk of splitting the sill plate.
