As requested by Jonathan Roth of Jonathan Roth Construction on your behalf, Paul R.
Albertine, S.E. of Miller Consulting Engineers, Inc. has reviewed the design by our office
dated June 26, 2017, to provide clarification.
Detail 1 on sheet S3.01 is intended to provide anchorage of the main floor shear wall
piers to the shear wall below. These hold downs at each pier require anchorage only to
the shear wall below, and not to the foundation. According to prior construction
documents the shear wall below has hold downs at each end, and does not require
additional anchorage. Please refer to the attached sketch detail for clarification.
In the construction documents we have specified that all new 6 x 6 columns to be DF/L
No. 1. The construction documents also require verification of the presence of 6 x 6
columns below. The construction documents do not require verification that existing
column material is DF/L No. 1.
