Attached is a diagram showing how the network is set up.
Training
As many of us are experiencing now, the transition to PC's has led to a real
need for training. Currently, there are three training methods available:
instruction manuals, on-line tutorials, and videos. Coming in the near future
are, in house training and user pocket references.
In the meantime, if you have questions on:
Dbase, contact Bruce or John Acker
Lotus 123, contact Wayne
Word Perfect, contact Sherrie
Network Information, contact Bruce.
Section Updates
Finance - Lotus has an add-on called Always. It helps make your
spreadsheet more readable.
If you need to put together some graphs, there is a great program called
GraphWriter. It will make the task much easier and your graphs will be very
professional looking.
Accounting - Don is talking with vendors, and reviewing software, to
determine what financial system will be best for the City.
WP - Macros (specal file that remembers a series of keystrokes to be used
later, in this case formats) have been set up for ordinances, resolutions,
agenda summaries, and memos.
The new lazer printer should be in the end of this week.
If it isn't cut in the budget process, WP will have desk top publishing by
July 1. This will include a scanner, so pictures can be included in
documents.
Personnel - Brian is looking for Human Resources software.
Court - Staff is talking with vendors regarding software. Ashland
Municipal Court's software and Springbrook's software has been reviewed.
Records - Networking software has been budgeted for next fiscal year.
Planning, Building, Engineering - Staff just went through a half day
training session on their new permit system. They hope to begin data entry
into the system in 30 days. Temporary help will be brought in to collect
information for entry into the system and someone to do the data entry.
Operations - There is money in the budget for Operations computer system.
They are slowly moving toward computerization.
Library - They have budgeted for 2 PC's, and are looking forward to
joining the network.
Miscellaneous
EMS - to find out who you can send memos to enter: List Users, then transmit.

Again, when trying to send a group memo when in EMS enter: Send Memo t',14vwto
, USCC , nai S, etc, and then transmit.
A network orientation is tenatively scheduled for May 11, at 10:00 a.m.
When selecting software packages, keep in mind that training should be
included.
Our next meeting is scheduled for June 7, at 2 p.m. Agenda items should be to
Sherrie by May 31.
