06/24/1991 - Minutes Minutes from the June 24, 1991 Computer Users Meeting. Attending were Wayne Lowry, Angela Deever, Sherrie Burbank, Billie Rawlings, Bruce Olson, John Acker, Cathy Wheatley, Karen Ellis, Valerie Yunker, and Nadine Robinson. Update from Accounting: Andrew Adams is the new accounting manager. He may take Wayne's place on the committee at a later time. There are also four wrist rests that are missing. If someone comes across those, please let Jan know. Wayne will be conducting training in either late July or August. That training will be on the GraphWriter. Library update: The Library has updated the WILI system. The updates aren't so much a benefit to the public as they are for the internal procedures and tracking. The Library has their IBM and their Macintosh out due to viruses. They will no longer be allowing the public to bring in their own floppy discs. (They think that's how the virus got started.) They're also looking at an optical disk reference station and that will be for viewing purposes. Computer Management update: Bruce has purchased some virus checking software. Our system checked out okay. As I mentioned before, the Library did have some viruses in a couple of their computers. Supervisor also recommended that Operations be invited back into the Computer User's meeting now that their systems are on-line. The Committee as a whole, felt like it would be beneficial to have them as part of the group. The Technical Group continues to operate and right now are status quo. The Tech Group members on the Committee feel they have enough information to provide the limited services that are needed in their departments. Bruce has also brought the site license agreements up to date and we are all operating legally. Our operating system has been updated to DR Dos 5.0. It won't have any impact on the user. It is more for Bruce's uses. Engineering update: Bruce gave an update on Engineering. They have two new stations with AutoCAD capability. Autocad runs on a 486. PacSoft is not being used at all now. Word Processing update: The desktop publishing software Ventura has been updated to 3.0 version. We have a form design software called PerForm. Word Processing is continuing to do WordPerfect training in Basic, Immediate, Advanced, and Refresher courses. They have gotten a lot of positive feedback from those training sessions. Also, macros for ordinances, resolutions, and agenda have changed. Sherrie requested that Kristen, the temporary switchboard operator, be given access to PD E-mail and also to Quattro. Administration update: Cathy commented that the modem has been working very well with the Attorney's office. Cathy has appreciated having that on-line. She also wanted to remind people that she is using the computer for recap, agendas, and exec stuff. That is to help cut down on the use of paper. CD update: Tidemark is still not functioning correctly and Billie has asked that Bruce get more involved. She would like getting helping them back on-line, which means getting Tidemark to take some responsibility and help them out. Court and Records update: Bruce is currently working on rewriting the court software. It is taking longer then anticipated, because Springbrook software is convoluted and difficult to follow. Also, clerks indexing is available for other staff use. If there are staff that would like to get on the system and be trained, we would be happy to do that through Records. Briefly, we discussed having the clerical support people be given access to the checks index. The concern with the index program is that we are unable to control accessibility. When a user is given rights to get into the clerks index system, they also have rights to modify data that has been put in there.
