Tigard Public Library Board Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,June 14, 2017 7:00 p.m.
MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Conference Room, Second Floor
1. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
The Library Board began the meeting by having a conversation with Rachel Seltz, Adult Services
Librarian in Readers Services,who was in attendance as the guest for this meeting. Rachel attended
the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has been with the Tigard Public Library for a little
over a year. Rachel shared her process of how she develops the Science Fiction/Fantasy collection
and some of the tools she uses. Rachel also organizes some of the adult programs that are offered
to our patrons.
2. CALL TO ORDER:
Due to a lack of a quorum at 7:00, Chair Scott Hancock was not able to call the June 14,2017 Tigard
Library Board meeting to order until 7:09 when Joseph Callahan arrived.

Board Member Absent: Michelle Taylor
Staff Present: Library Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Margaret Reh.
4. APPROVE MINUTES
The minutes from the May 10, 2017 Board meeting were reviewed.
Motion by Katie Harris. Second by Joseph Callahan to approve the May 10, 2017 minutes.

5. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
There were none.
6. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Library Director Margaret Barnes informed the Board of the activities and actions that have taken
place in the past month and some upcoming items. At this point in time we have just over 1000
sign-ups for the Summer Reading Program;the Teen Volunteer program will begin the end of June;
we are waiting for the new book drops to be delivered;we are getting new software for the security
cameras; all children's books and materials are now fine free;Adult and Young Adult materials will
all be $.25 beginning July 1, 2017; check out of the Cultural Passes are all on line now; the coffee

bar vendor has moved out-the City is looking at options for the space; the re-upholstery project is
now complete;we have new round tables for use in the Community Room.
7. DISCUSSION OF THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM
This was covered in the Library Operations report.
8. DISCUSSION OF CALENDAR FOR POLICY REVIEW
Since there will be a number of new Board members appointed for the new terms, it was decided
that a schedule for reviewing the Library Policies should be tabled. The existing Board Members
will work with the new Board Members to create a schedule for reviewing policies. It was suggested
that no more than 3-4 policies be reviewed per meeting.The policies that were reviewed the longest
time ago should be the first to be reviewed.

10. ADJOURNMENT
No further business was discussed. Chair Hancock adjourned the meeting at 7:20 p.m. The next
meeting of the Tigard Library Board is scheduled for Wednesday,July 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the
second floor Conference Room, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
