BOND PROJECTS There is a great deal of work happening currently on the bond projects. Here is a brief status report: Bonita Road: A contract has been signed with Kampe Engineering to provide design for the completion of the Bonita project, scheduled for 1991 construction. Durham Road: Currently under construction. The road is to be reopened to through traffic by September 1st. Construction should be completed by November. Gaarde/99W Intersection: State funding of $180,000 has been approved for this project, which will reduce the City costs. We will begin the detailed design process soon, still targeting construction in 1991. Greenbury Road: Bids have been opened for the first phase, the storm drainage work near Center Street. This work has to be done before we can install a storm drainage system along Greenburg. Bids were below engineer's estimate. We expect the work to begin in late August or early September. This phase was delayed by the railroads, who needed to give permission for us to install piping across their rights of way. We are currently advertising for bids for the second phase, installation of the underground utilities along Greenburg Road. The utility work was rescheduled for this fall to better coordinate with the utility companies and to allow time for acquisition of nearly 70 utility easements. Actual roadway construction will be bid as the final phase, with construction to begin in the spring of 1991, after the other two phases are completed. Locust Street: This project is completed. Main Street: Selection of a design consultant for the bridge replacement will occur this month. Construction will be scheduled for summer and fall of 1991. McDonald Street: The intersection improvements at Hall Blvd. should be completed this month. Work was delayed while utility companies relocated the poles. The GTE strike contributed to the delay. Following a June meeting with property owners, the design consultants are completing construction plans and preparing right-of-way descriptions. We expect to be ready to bid this project early in 1991. Walnut Street: The project is under construction, scheduled for completion by September 1st. 69th Avenue/99W Intersection: This project is scheduled for 1991. 121st Avenue: Construction is progressing and should be mostly completed during August. Budget: Overruns on some projects have been offset by underruns on other projects. At this point, we still expect to finish all 10 projects within the $8,500,000 budget. After the final project bids are opened next spring, we will know if there is enough money left to fund an additional project. 2. C.I.P. PROJECTS Design consultants are preparing plans for the Durham/92nd signal and the Bonita/72nd signal. We expect to bid both this fall, with construction early next year. Construction of the Greenburg/Cascade signal will begin soon. The signal is to be in operation before Thanksgiving. 3. COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING At their workshop meeting on July 2nd, the Council provided additional direction on several transportation issues. A number of potential plan changes will be considered this fall and winter. We expect to be ready to provide an update and schedule at the September meeting of the Transportation Committee. rw/TTAC-Aug
