Staff agrees the trees cannot be practicably preserved. Condition 5 is met and the trees can be removed consistent with the approved urban forestry plan. Thank you for making best efforts to retain these "heritage" trees and namesakes for the proposed Oak Street Apartments. Attached is a memo addressing Condition 5 of the Final Order No. 2016-17 for the modification of the approved A+O Apartments Planned Development, Case File PDR2015-0007/SDR2015-00003. More specifically the memo addresses constraints associated with preserving the two existing oak trees, E29 and E30, located at the north east corner of the Oak Street Apartments project. Based on the existing site constraints, the required off-site improvements, construction limitations, and tree preservation requirements provided by Multnomah tree it is our opinion that it is not practical to preserve the two oak trees. The memo also provides an alternative landscape plan for SW Oak Street that increases the number of proposed street trees. The revised street tree design would be used in lieu of preserving the two existing oak trees. Based on the findings of the proposed memo and proposed alternative street tree plan, we request the City Engineering and Planning staff approve removal of the two oak trees, E29 and E30 prior to our submittal of the site development permit plans.
