ADJOURN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING Tuesday, March 21, 198 MEMBERS PRESENT: John Savory, Jim Corliss, Bob Pierce, Susan Clark, Bill Monahan OTHERS PRESENT: Peggy Weston Byrd, John Acker The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m. and the minutes of the February meeting were approved without modification. The John Tigard House and other historic structures were again discussed as to moving them to a more advantageous location. Historic buildings located in the downtown area could attract people to the area and could benefit merchants as well as give identity to the area. A downtown location might also reduce vandalism on the John Tigard House. It was decided that the EDC chairman would write a letter to the mayor supporting such a move. Committee members who went on the ambassador tour were pleased at how it went. It was suggested that the EDC or the Ambassador group could conduct similar tours for other City groups. A regular tour, perhaps every quarter, could be a service of the Ambassador program. The committee also discussed the possibility of developing a slide presentation in conjunction with the tour. The committee discussed at length the status of the City Center Plan, and where we are in the process of establishing an Urban Renewal District. Bill Monahan explained Tax Increment Financing and how it fits in with the revitalization of the downtown. The committee decided to send a letter to the City Council supporting the use of Tax Increment Financing in the downtown.
