ADJOURNMENT 7, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday May 16, 1989 MEMBERS PRESENT: Joy Crouch, Bill Monahan, Brian Moore, Amo DeBernardis OTHERS PRESENT: John Acker The meeting was called to order at 7:40 a.m. and the minutes of the April meeting were approved without modification. John gave a brief explanation of the periodic review process. It was noted that the Goal 9 (economy) portion of the comprehensive plan would be extensively improved and updated. The EDC will have ample opportunity to provide input and feedback throughout this process. Bill stated that he will be unable to attend the Board and Committee chairpersons meeting and asked for volunteers to go in his stead. Brian Moore said he would check his schedule. Bill started a discussion of the Trammel Crow proposal to create an urban renewal district in the area near Lincoln Center and around Metzger School by describing the proposal as much as is known. Committee members thought that development of this general area might be desirable in the long run, but expressed concern for the current residents. The question was raised about what was said and what assurances were given to these people when the area was annexed in 1986. The committee agreed to send a letter to the City Council outlining EDC concerns, Bill will send. The committee talked about ways for ambassadors to reach the community with the message that help is available. The idea of seeking speaking engagements at such organizations as I-5 Corridor, TVEDC, Rotary, etc., was seen as a good way to reach the target audience. Joy Crouch announced that she was leaving soon for Europe and would not be at the EDC meetings until she returned in September. Joy will be spending her summer in Austria and Yugoslavia. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.
