Tigard Public Library Board Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,April 12, 2017 7:00 p.m.
MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Conference Room, Second Floor
1. CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Scott Hancock called the April 12,2017 Tigard Library Board meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Members Present: Joseph Callahan (arrived at 7:09), Scott Hancock, Katie Harris,Michelle Taylor,
Roarke Van Brunt
Alternates Present: Becky Gauthier
Staff Present: Library Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Margaret L. Reh.
3. APPROVE MINUTES
The minutes from the March 8, 2017 Board meeting were reviewed. S. Hancock requested a change
in Agenda Item 7. He noted that he would be providing the opening and closing comments and that
J. Callahan would be speaking on the library being the cornerstone of the Community. There were
no other additions or corrections.
Motion by K. Harris. Second by R. Van Brunt to approve the March 8, 2017 minutes as amended.

4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
There were none.
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Brenna Normann, Librarian-Technical Services, was the guest for this meeting. Brenna is one of the
Librarians in Technical Services. She has been with the Tigard Library for nearly two years. Ms.
Normann was hired as a Senior Librarian Assistant and has since been promoted to Librarian. She is
from Oregon, but came to us after some time of living and working in Georgetown, Texas. Brenna
explained her work duties and the projects she has undertaken during her time here.
6. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
The March statistics were handed out for the Board's review. Library Director Margaret Barnes
updated the Board on the past months activities and programs.
The Library is undergoing a re-upholstery project which is set to begin on April 13, 2017. Various
chairs throughout the library and all the chairs in the Houghton Room will be recovered.

The Volunteer Recognition event is scheduled for April 30 at 6:00. Barnes inquired if the Board
members would be able to attend the event.At this point in time they are all available to attend.
7. DISCUSSION OF JOINT MEETING WITH CITY COUNCIL
The Board discussed their presentation to the City Council scheduled for April 18, 2017. The order
of speakers and the topics each were presenting were firmed up.
Three maps were submitted to the City Recorder to be included in the Council Agenda Packet. The
Board reviewed these maps and decided to add an additional pin map that shows all registered active
Patrons.
8. DISCUSSION OF VOLUNTEER CELEBRATION&AWARDS CEREMONY
This event is scheduled for Sunday,April 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
9. DISCUSSION OF RECRUITMENT FOR LIBRARY BOARD
Library Board member Roarke Van Brunt informed the Board that he will be moving in August, so
his position will also be opening up. A posting for the open Library Board positions will be included
in the Books and Bits newsletter. We will have a poster in lobby with application forms throughout
May. We will advertise the openings on the City Website with a link to the application. The City
Council will interview in June and those appointed will begin their term in July.
10. OTHER BUSINESS
The Board briefly discussed libraries closing down in Douglas County and the impact the reduced
timber revenues have had in that county.
A. LIBRARY TRENDS
There were no new trends to share.
11. ADJOURNMENT
No further business was discussed. Chair Hancock adjourned the meeting at 8:13 p.m. The joint
Tigard Library Board and City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, 2017. The next
meeting of the Tigard Library Board is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the
second floor Conference Room, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
