May 6 - 13, 2017
Whereas, small business is the engine that drives our economy; and
Whereas, small businesses are responsible for creating two out of three net new
jobs over the last 20 years; and I
Whereas, Oregon is home to over 357,000 different small businesses; and 1
Whereas, 99.4 percent of all employers in Oregon are small business owners; and
Whereas, Tigard's small businesses create family-wage jobs, boost our local
economy and strengthen our neighborhoods; and
Whereas, firms located in Tigard have a several readily available tools to help them
grow at every phase of a company's life cycle; and
Whereas, Tigard's partnership with the Small Business Development Center, the
Tigard Area Chamber of Commerce, Grow Oregon, Business Oregon and the U.S.
Small Business Administration all support local businesses in identifying key
resources and education to build and operate a successful small business that
contributes to the community; and
Whereas, the U.S. Small Business Administration annually presents Oregon's top
small businesses with awards and recognizes the efforts of SBA lenders and
champions of small business who help local entrepreneurs start, grow and succeed.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, John L. Cook, Mayor of the City of
Tigard, Oregon, do hereby proclaim May 6-13, 2017 as Small Business Week and
encourage residents to shop and celebrate the small businesses that flourish in our
city.
