Upon the March 20th inspections my inspector .3ie Brien called Mr. Koster regarding the furnace room and it wm e sold that the plenum leaving the furnace room was one houred in lieu of one houring the furnace room. The plenum leaving this furnace room is not *ns hour and in f my opinion would be quite costly to do 60 as each open* Ing or duct penettating the plenum would have to be daepersd. Our drawings and 4 our mechanical engineer concur that approved fire dampers need yet to be installed'.. The contractor has been notified and he has indicated to ` us he will install the proper equipment. The doors (label 22A) entering this mechanical room should be a one-hour assembly. We are taking action to modify this also. 1 The real problem seems to be with your item #1 - Doors (main floor) . According to your letter, all doors opening into a. corridor would be re- quired to be a 20 minute assembly. This we do not dispute. We content: that according to the 1970 Uniform Building Code (U.B.C. ) the exit wave provided in T.O.C. are not corridors by citing section 3304 (a) para- graph 3, f f "Partitions, rails, counters and si.mllar space iy dividers not over 5 feet in height above the floor I shall not be construed to fora, corridors. " and section 3302 (e) EXITS THROUGH ADJOINING OR ACCESSORY AREAS which allow exits through spaces su,h as those xn T.O.C. } The total occupant load of this main level is 86 including the confer- ence room (Ry #121) at 18 occupants (141x 191 ) and excluding rooms #101, 104, 113,1.14, 115, 120, 122, 123, 125,126, and 128 as accessary uses (see 3301 (d) paragraph 3; EXCEPTION) There are four exits on the main level. This is 2 more than required by U.B.C. 3302.. These exits were located to serve an occupant exit load no greater than 26 occupants. We also satisfy U.B.C. 3304 (e) by maintaining access to all exits. In T.O.C. , no corridor or exit serves an occupant load of more than 30; therefore, no one-t:ou, fire- resistive construction is required along exit ways (see U.B.C. x304 (g) ) . gt � S .A^ • Mr. .
