The kitchen hood is required to be constructed of galvanized steel not less than 0.030 inch steel (no. 22 guage) . The height of the lowest edge of a grease filter located above the cooking surface shall be not less than 2 feet. Ref. Sec. U.F.C. 2003 t 2. Exhaust outlets shall be at least 2 feet above the roof' s surface, at least 10 feet from any adjoining building, adjacent property line or air intake opening into any building. ' Ref. Sec. U.F.C. 202 3. The exhaust and makeup air systems shall be connected by an electrical interlock switch to provide for simultaneous operation. Ref. Sec. U.F.C. 2003 4. Inspections are required after the installation of the first layer of gypsum wallboard sheathing, and after the installation of the final wallboard sheathing prior to the installation of the exhaust duct shaft. Scholls Ferry Road, Tigard, Oregon. It is our understanding that community water and community sewer will be utilized at this structure. The plans are approved subject to the following changes, additions, or recom- mendations: 1) Your plans in public access to tv,., toilets in the women's restroom an,i one toilet and one urinal in the men's restroom. You show one lavatory in each restroom. The walls of all rooms in which ford or drink is prepared or utensils are washed or stored and all toilet rooms shall have a smooth, washable, easily cleanable surface up to the level of splash or spray. 10) A mop hanging device must be installed. 11) Handled scoops must be available and ut?lized to dispense dry goods and ice. 12) All refrigeration liquid wastes, ice bin wastes, beverage dispensing unit wastes and dishwasher wastes must drain indirect to a floor sink or floor drain. 13) If any vegetables are going to be washed at the restaurant., the sink used must drain inJlrect. 14) All plumbing must meet the requirements of the City of Tigard and the Oregon Uniform Plumbing Code. 15) Your equipment list shows a 100 gallon salt water tank. We assume this is for fish. The animals in a faciYity must meet all the rules pertaining to animals and fowl in the Oregon Rules for Eating and Drinking Establish- ments. Scholls Ferry Road Regarding our conversation of ,January 4, 1983, et this occupancy, I am not quite sure how things went awry but it appears that the plans for the con- struction of the hood and duct system and the instructions contained in my letter to Mr. Tom Dearey of September 29, 1982, were not fully followed. For your further information and for the record, I am herewith enclosing a copy of the conditionally approved plan, my aforecited letter and all other written correspondence relating to this project. As matters now stand -- a. The grease duct is not fully welded. b. The required make-up air has net been provided. c. A trip test of the fire extinguishing system must be conducted in the presence of a representative of this office. d. A Certificate of Occupancy or other written instrument of acceptance must be obtained from the T1gard Build- ing Department. Regarding the issue of the make-up air, we have agreed with Mr. Gary Barker of ASI Heating and Air Conditioning Company to permit make-up air to be supplied by the gravity method until not later than February 1 , 1983. The trip test of the fire extinguishing system and the Certificate of Occupancy issues are performance specifications and, of course, can be accomplished with a minimum of lead time. The construction of the exhaust duct, however, is another matter. This requirement is set forth in Section 2002 of the Uniform Mech- anical Code (1979 edition) which is the standard for the State of Oregon and an adopted regulation of this jurisdiction. It should be noted that the plans for the grease duct call for it to be welded. Obviously, the screwed joints will not comply ne.- suffice. Until these issues have been satisfactorily resolved, we must withhold approval of the use and occupancy of the building. And all interested parties are to be advised that occupancy without the approval of this office will result in the issuance of a citation. The penalty for a violation of the fire code, upon conviction, is not less than $10 nor more than $100. Each clays continuan-2 of the violation constitutes a separate offense. You will note that copies were provided for the client and representatives of the prop- erty owner. Scholls Ferry Road The purpose of this letter is to confirm that we have examined the plans for the "grease" hood and exhaust duct installation proposed for this occupancy (formerly known as Judy's Karmelkorn). Listed as follows are requirements which must be observed during the course of construction and installation and for which we found no specific provisions in the submitted drawings. 1 . Make-up air must be provided for the building in an amount equivalent to that which is exhausted by the grease hood exhaust fan; i .e. 2200 cfm. The make-up air diffuser or diffusers must be located in a manner to prevent short circuiting of the air furnished to the exhaust system. The exhaust and make-up air systems must be connected by an electrical interlocking switch to the effect that both systems come on and operate simultaneously. 2. An automatic fixed pipe fire extinguishing system listed by Underwriters Laboratories Incorporated or other nationally recognized testing agency must be provided and installed in accordance with the terms of the list- ing and the manufacturer's instructions. The extinguishing system must protect the throat of the duct, grease removal devices and the interior of the hood. Further, all cooking equipment which may be a source of ignition of grease in the hood must also be so protected. Plans for this re- quired fire extinguishing system should be submitted to this office for review and approval prior to installation. Inspection and approval of the construction of the exhaust duct shalt is required prior to the application of the first layer of gypsum wallboard and again prior to the application of the second layer of gypsum wallboard. 4. Prior to the use of the hood and exhaust system, a trip test of the fire extinguishing system and a test of the exhaust and make-up air systems must be conducted in the presence of a representative of this office. 5. Prior to the use of the equipment referred to herein, a Certificate of Occupancy or other written instrument of acceptance must be secured from the Tigard Building Department. Subject to the foregoing comments and stipulations, the plans under discussion are hereby approved. We trust this letter will assist in clearing the way `or the further development of the project.
