The plans for the development of this occupancy which you submitted to
this office on March 26 , 1981 , have been examined with reference to
applicable fire safety regulations . As a result , we offer the follc;wing
listed requirements which must be observed during the course of con-
struction and for which we found no provisions in the submitted drawings .
1 . In all wood framed walls and partitions firestopping
consisting of 2- inch ( nominal ) lumber , gypsum plaster-
board or equvalent material is required at all floor
and ceiling lines and, other-vrise, at maximum vertical
and horizontal intervals of 10 feet . Penetrations
made in this prescribed firestopping to accommodate
wiring , plumbing , duct work and similar utility runs
must be packed , following the installation of said
utility runs , in a manner which will effectively
maintain the integrity of the firestopping and cut
off all concealed draft openings which could afford
a passage for flame.

2 . All insulating materials including facings , such as
vapor barriers and breather papers , installed within
the attic area rriust have a flame spread rating of not
to exceed 25 and a smoke density of not more than 450
as measured on the Steiner Tunnel Test Scale referred
to as Uniform Building Code Standard No . 42-1 . However ,
when such materials are installed so that the vapor
barrier is in substantial contact with the ceiling
material , the flame spread requirement will not apply .
Fire prevention does not cost it pays

In any case , insulating material whether combustible or
noncombustible must not be installed within 3 inches of
the sides or 24 inches of the top of recessed incandescent
light fixture enclosures and similar heat generating devices .
( ref : Sec . 1718 U . B . C . )
3 . The suspended acoustical the ceiling must have a flame
spread rating of not to exceed 200 . Again , as in the
case of the insulation , reference is made tc the Steiner
Tunnel Test Scale ; i . e . U . B . C . Standard No . 42- 1 .

4 . Eave soffits or corn•; ce vents for atti c ventilation must
not be placed within 3 feet , measured laterally , of
window or door openings .
( ref : Sec . 3205 U. B . C . )
5. The pair of doors ( designated as door assembly no. 1
on the drawings ) which serve as the only means of exit
from this occupancy must be openabl e at al 1 times for,
immediate exit without the use of a key , special knowledge
or effort . However , a keyed deadlock may be empl oyed i f
it is of the indicating type ( i . e . being readily distinguish-
ab 1 e as being locked when in the 1 oc ked pos i tion ) and in
conjunction therewith a sign is posted on or over the door
which reads " THIS DOOR MUST REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS
HOURS" in letters not less than 1 inch in height on a con-
trasting background .
In any case , edge bolts , surface bolts , flush bolts or any
other type of devise that may be used to close or restrain
the doors is prohibited . The locking device must be
arranged so that when the active leaf is unlocked , the
inactive leaf is free to swing and the unlatching of the
doors shall riot require more than one operation .

6 . The plans submitted to and examined by this office contained
no plans for a heating system . If other than electric base-
board heat is employed , complete mechanical system plans must
be submitted to and approved by this office prior to the
installation of any HVAC equipment and its attendant duct
work .
All heat producing and electrical equipment and appliances
installed in conjunction with the construction or occupancy
of this project area must be listed by Underwriter ' s Laboratories ,
Incorporated or other nationally recognized -testing agency .

7 . One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the
Tigard Building Department and this office must be
maintained at the project site throughout all phases
of construction ,end must be made available to building
and fire inspectors for reference during required con-
struction inspections .

8 . Inspection and approval of construction by this office
is required :
a ) prior to drywall cover of interior framing
following the installation of all utility
runs and the firestopping referred to in
Requirement No . 1 of this 'report.
b ) upon completion of construction and prior to
occupancy of the project area ; i . e. prior to
opening for business .

9 . Prior to the occupancy of the project area , a Certificate
of Occupancy or other written authorization must be
o-)tained from the City of Tigard Building Department.

Subject to the foregoing comments and stipulations , the plans under discussion
are hereby approved insofar as fire safety regulations apply . The reference
note which follows each listed requirement refers to the appropriate section
of t;,r Uniform Bui 1 di ng Code or the Uniform Mechanical Code as amendk--:d and
adopted by Washington County Fire District No . 1 . If you should have any
