McDonald Street East of S.W. 97th Avenue Tigard, Oregon i I Gentlemen: At your request we have examined the site proposed for the construction of a single family dwelling at the above location in Tigard, Oregon. We present herewith a report of our findings, conclusions and recommendations. Site Description The proposed construction site measures ipproximately 50 feet along S.W. McDonald Street by 160 feet in dc�pfh . It consists of a southerly-facing slope below the level of S .W. McDonald Street, the declivity of which is approximately 1 vortical to 1 horizontal for a distance of ten of fifteen and then level out to a very gradual slope into the adjacent waterway. Soils and Geology Soils in the project area consist of a sequence of fine-grained sediments (silts and sands ) found extensively throughout the Willamette and Tualatin Valleys (Willamette- Silt) , underlain by fine-grained soils of the Troutdale Formation. Proposed Construction We understand the construction proposed will consist of a single family dwelling with a garage constructed near the level. of the street . Conclusions and Recommendations From our examination of the project site, we draw the following principal conclusions and recommendations: 1 . We conclude that this site is stable and that it may be developed for residential purposes in accordance with the methods and precautions outlined below. The upper unit of loose-dumped fill material , although undoubtedly consolidated under its present conditions of loading will undergo an additional cycle of consolidation and settlement upon the application of furth;�r loading ; consequently, the fill should not be used in its present state for the support of major structures. 3. The structure may be supported by means of piling (treated timber) driven to 30 blows for the last six inches using 15, 000 foot pounds of energy . Piling so driven could be loaded to a stress level of 20 tons. 4. Lateral earth pressures on foundation walls, rotaining walls , etc. , may be calculated on the basis of equivalent fluid pressure of 35 pcf for level backfill. 5. All backfill, retaining walls , foundation walls , etc. , should be made with select granular material ( sand and/or gravel ) . We anticipate that on-site material will not be suitable for this purpose and that it will be necessary to import material to the project for structure backfill . 6. Temporary earth slopes may be cut near-vertical to heights of 5 or 6 feet , above which height lower declivities will be required. 7. Permanent earth slopes should be dressed to a declivity of 1 vertical to 2 horizontal . R. An adequate subsurface drain system should be installed behind subsurface walls. Surface run-off c,rains and the subsurface drains should be carried to the storm sewer or other approved disposal areas. 9. Under no circumstances should fills be constructed anywhere on the slope. surplus material (other than the small amount to be removed from local excavations) must he removed from the site to a remote dispo�;-il area. 10. All roof , yard , and other upland surface water must be direc- ted to storm sewers or other approved disposal points.
