I am writing to confirm your interpretation of the fire protection requirements within the tenant spaces. With regards to the general building construction, 1 understand that all the walls within the building are 1-hour construction, and that all the doors are ?0 mina construction as a building standard, although, I believe the only area separations occur at the lobby areas. Therefore, in areas where corridors are required, but not all walls are explicitly shown to be 1-hour raised, it is because the walls are existing and therefore already raised, and where corridors are explicitly noted, it is to insure that adequate coverage be provided. March 23, 1982 Page Two At the south quadrant of the first floor, 1-hour corridor walls with 20-minute doors will be required where shown. Lounge G will be considered to be part of the corridor, and both exit doors (123 and 127) must swing out. On the second floor, at the north quadrant, 1-hour corridor walls will be required where shown. Per our discussion, the location of the D.C. Manager's office will not conflict with the code requirements for dead-end corridors. Door 2.01 must swing out into the reception area. Again in the .south quadrant of the second floor, the occupant load has been reduced below 30 by treating the telephone room and restroom/storage core as accessory areas. Per our discussion, you will not interpret the hallways at the ends of the space as forming dead-end corridors, nor do you feel that the CSR area in the middle interrupts continuous egress. I think that the computer rooms on the first floor should be required to conform to NFPA Standard #75 because of the type of equipment which will be installed there. Timberline Systems' existing computer is a Texas Instrument system with a TI 990 c.p.u. and 4 disc drives, and they plan to install a second system in the same room later. I assume the Tymshare computer wi' l be of similar character. As I understand NEPA #75, compute • rooms and computer storage rooms must be enclosed by a 1-hour separation, with fire dampers, fire extinguishers. smoke detection and separate air conditioning. Please let me know whether or not you will require area separation here. I would appreciate it if you could send me written confirmation of the points I 've brought up here, particularly with regard to the computer room. My firm's involvement has been only at the level of space planning, but I want to make sure that we have adequately addressed the fire protection issues.
