Several collapses have occurred on roofs utilizing these types of trusses the most recent on August 21,1987 in Athena, OR, and here in Tigard on July 21, 1987. The exact cause of the failures is not presently known. Records indicate the building at the above-referenced address utilized the "Timjoist" trusses in its construction. An inspection was conducted by Brad Roast, Tigard Building Department, and myself on May 8, 1981 , and the following items were noted which require correction. 1. Install self closures on the following doors. a. Door between the lunch room and the first floor lobby. b. All the doors between the classroom and office spaces, and the corridor leading from main entrance and the classroom. c. All doors opening into rear stairway except exterior doors. d. Door at top of main stairway. X' 2. All openings into the rear stairway are required to be protected with 20-minute labeled doors and framed assemblies. 3. Glass panels at the top of the main stairway are required to be wire glass. The total area of all openings, other than doors, in any portion of an interior corridor shall not exceed 25% of the area of the corridor wall of the room which it is separating from the corridor. 4. Relocate the fire extinguisher cabinet second floor as indicated on the submitted plan. x'5. Install two (2) Class 2A1OBC fire extinguishers in the fire extinguisher cabinets, one on the first floor and one on the second floor. Y6. Advise First State Bank that the present location of the coat rack on the second floor is blocking an emergency exit and is required to be moved.
