The hottest water rises to the top of the tank. When hot water is drawn from your hot water heater it is re- placed by preheated water from the solar tanks . To gain the best savings from your system draw higher hot water demands at early afternoon and early evening; times allowing your system to reach peak temperaturPz; twit;:; a day. As a. precaution against freezing we recommend turning the "Red" handle faucet open to a slight trickle when out- side temperatures are below 250 F for 24 hours or longer. The water can be run through a garden hose to the outside or to a floor drain . When leaving on winter vacation drain your system. Follow the instructions provided in this operation manual . Clean the glass on your solar collectors at least once each year to guarantee utmost performance . Once every years back flush the system. To do this first drein your system then hook -our garden hose to an outdoor faucet., then heck the othEr end or the hose up to the "Red" faucet . Rake sure the "Red" faucet is open, then open "Flue" faucet . Hook another garden hose to "Blue" faucet for draining out the sediments and run water this way for about ?0 minutes . Follow the ir?structions provided in this operation manual to refill your system. In case of system failure refer to oFeration check list . ? f `ailure can not be corrected by using check list procedures close white solar valve and call our office for service on your system. 245-5666 Possibility of serious burns exists on all components carrying heated water from solar panels . 3 Temperature-pressure relief valve (potable waticr', The temperature-pressure relief valve must be manual•• ly operated at least once a year. Caution should be taken to ensure that (1) No one is in front of or around the outlet of the temperature-pressure relief valve dis- charge line, and(2)that the water manually discharged will not cause any property damage If after manually operafing the valve rt fads to completely reset and con- tinues to release water, immediately close the cold wa- ter inlet to the heater, follow the draining instructions, and replace the temperature-pressure relief valve with a new one Failure to install and maintain a new properly listed temperature-pressure relief valve will release the manufacturer from any clam which might result from excessive temperature or water pressure. Filling the storage tank 1 Close the heater drain valve The dram valve is on the lower front of your heater 2 Open a convenient hot water faucet 3 Open the cold water supply valve to your hearcv NOTE This valve must be left open when the heat- er s m use 4 Fill your heater until water runs freely from the opened hot water faucet This will let out air in the heater and the piping Close the faucet after the water comes out NOTE YOU MUST NOT TURN THE ELECTRICITY ON UNTIL THE HEATER IS FULL OF WATER 4 r __ Draining You may want b shut off your water heater for long periods of time M you do and your heater may be exposed to freezing temperatures It must be drained Water will expand when freez'ng damaging your heat- er. This is not covered by the warranty Both the storage tank and the Solar system must be drained 1. Turn off the electrical supply to your heater Then tum off the cold water supply 2. Connect hose to the dram valve 3. Open a nearby hot water faucet Open your heater dram valve 4 Keep the drain valve open during the shutdown period 5 See your filling instructions to restart the water heater Operation check list Check the water ",ease, Installation belore you call a serviceman The heave, Tay not '-%e working because something is wrong :)u's de the heater You can often find what is wrong by creCK ng the operational check list Then you won 1 have !o wait for a sere ceman to get hot water NOT ENOUGH OR NO HOT WATER 1 In a new instal anon the heate, Tay not have had enough time to heat the water It the sNar system is used WITHOUT the optional booster e'ement connected, a full day or more of operation with good sunlight may be regwred to heat the water to a useable !empe•ature 2.
