We understand the new RTU weighs approximately 700 lbs. The RTU is supported by two (2) existing roof purlins. The proposed new unit will replace two (2) existing units using the existing curb of the westernmost unit with a curb adaptor. Please notify WDY if the new unit weight and/or location are different from above, or if the existing curb will not be used. WDY conducted a site visit on May 13, 2016, and has been provided "Northern Yards" record drawings by Sabre Construction Co., dated 6 May 1974. Our site visit and the drawings indicate that the roof framing above the office area consists of 10" light-gauge steel Z-purlins, spaced at approximately 5' o.c., spanning approximately 25' over steel beams. The drawings do not appear to reference any design roof loads. WDY applied a superimposed roof dead load of 3 psf (commonly used for manufactured metal buildings) and a roof live load of 25 psf for the purlin evaluation. Based on the above information, it is our opinion the roof structure has adequate design capacity to support the new replacement RTU at the westernmost existing location using the existing curb, The RTU installer is responsible to determine methods of moving the RTU into position and to distribute the load by dollies, sleepers, or planking to avoid localized overloading of the roof decking.
