This Engineering Field Directive is issued to Sage Built Homes for the single family residence
identified as the 3980 plan under construction on Parcel 3 in the Murdock partition on SW
Murdock Street in unincorporated Washington County, Oregon regarding holes drilled in a floor
beam.
Two 1" 4) holes were drilled in a 51/2 x 14" glulam beam over the exercise room. One hole is
located 1" below the top of the beam and directly above the garage end bearing. The other hole
is near midspan at approximately mid-depth of the beam. The beam is loaded to about 30% of
capacity in shear at the bearing end and 56% of capacity in bending at midspan. The holes will
have minimal impact on the beam capacity. The beam was found to be structurally adequate
with the two 1" 4) holes drilled in it.
