Subgrade had been overlain by approx. 1"of loose crushed rock. I used a Y2"diameter steel foundation probe to evaluate brown silt subgrade through/next to forms. Resistance to penetration generally indicates medium-stiff subgrade conditions. Observations of lot subgrades are as follows: Lot 63- Probes generally medium-stiff.Western section of northern continuous footing (see site plan) probes soft up to 12". Lot 64- Probes generally medium-stiff. Roots observed ranging in diameter from 1/8th inch to approx, 4". I observed crews cut roots to be level with current grade while I was onsite. I used a shovel to remove crushed rock layer to expose some of the pad footing subgrade, minimal surficial roots were observed. I observed roots ranging in diameter from 1"to 4"within footing subgrade in central wall section. We recommend removal of these roots under footing resulting in an over excavation not exceeding 18" below current grade. Excavation should be backfilled in accordance with the"Structural Fill"section of our Geotechnical Report. Two areas on the north and south of the pad probed soft(see site plan). Lot 65- Partially formed for concrete during my visit. I observed three areas (see site plan)where resistance to penetration indicates soft subgrade. We understand areas not within continuous footing or pad footings are going to be non-loadbearing crawl spaces. Based on probing, we recommend one of the three following courses of action be taken in identified soft subgrade/\ areas: owri 4.1`;..yn0,.a s u,b S ( ct 1. Geo Design observe potholes next to soft footing areas to observe sfac#e conditions. 2. Over-excavate areas 6"and backfill with compacted structural fill. 3. Over-excavate areas 6"and fill excavation with concrete during footing pour. We recommend Geo Design be notified to re-observe soft footing areas identified today prior to footing pour. Based on our observations and probing, footing subgrade areas observed today(excluding aforementioned root removal and soft subgrade areas) have been prepared in general accordance with project specifications and our geotechnical recommendations. 15575 SW Sequoia Parkway,Suite 100 I Portland,OR 97224 I Off 503.968.8787 I Fax 503.968.3068 G EODESIGN= EP FIELD REPORT Page 2 of 4 Distribution: Attachments: Site Plan (1), Photos (4) Reviewed by: r0 This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative.
