(541) 768-3209 SDN 1 STRUCTURAL DESIGN NARRATIVE Headworks Effluent Structure prepared for Clean Water Services by CH2M HILL January 2015 FACILITY: Headworks Effluent Structure DESIGN BASIS: The Headworks Effluent Structure was designed in accordance with the 2014 Oregon Structural Specialty Code and the 2012 International Building Code. STRUCTURAL SYSTEM: The facility is a rectangular reinforced concrete tank with a non-sliding base. VERTICAL LOAD-RESISTING SYSTEM: The reinforced concrete tank has a steel framed,checkered floor plate system at top that transfers vertical loads to the concrete walls and down to the concrete mat foundation. LATERAL LOAD-RESISTING SYSTEM: The tank's reinforced concrete walls span vertically to resist out-of-plane lateral forces from the static and seismically accelerated liquid and soil loads.The reactions from the wall spans are transmitted horizontally and vertically to the perpendicular walls and the mat foundation through steel reinforcing bars. The perpendicular walls act as reinforced concrete shear walls parallel to the applied force.The concrete shear walls carry the resulting forces and their own inertial forces down to the foundation,where the load is transmitted by dowelled reinforcement. SDN 2 STRUCTURAL DESIGN NARRATIVE Biofilter Structure prepared for Clean Water Services by CH2M HILL January 2015 FACILITY: Biofilter Structure DESIGN BASIS: The structure was designed in accordance with the 2014 Oregon Structural Specialty Code and the 2012 International Building Code. STRUCTURAL SYSTEM: The structure consists of reinforced concrete retaining walls to contain the biofilter media and a small three sided special reinforced masonry canopy structure. VERTICAL LOAD-RESISTING SYSTEM: The canopy structure consists of a steel framed,steel roof deck system. The roof deck spans to the steel roof beams and then to masonry walls on three sides and a two steel columns on one side. The wall loads are transferred into concrete stem walls which are also acting as soil retaining walls and then down to their footings. The steel columns transfer vertical loads to a continuous spread footing. LATERAL LOAD-RESISTING SYSTEM: The steel roof deck acts as a flexible diaphragm and transfers its load into the masonry shear walls through top of wall steel embeds.This load is transferred through the walls, in shear and bending,to the concrete retaining walls and finally to the foundation through reinforcing dowels. ..: -,', - -- !..„-- Job No. ( . / —1.
