The formula for horizontal shear is v=3/2 V/(b h) f.
The notch is not in a region considered to resist horizontal
shear but,if it was, 1/2 of the beam depth would still
resist the horizontal shear where
V allowable=4.44 k>2.612 k required.
Also, notch corners are round which reduces stress concentrations.
It is my opinion that beams as notched are OK.

When I put the posts up near the house a gas line interfered with the CCQ66SDS2.5 column caps.
Thought the gas line was loose enough to move out of the way but it wasn't so I had to notch the
brackets a bit.
When I had the framing inspection he said he couldn't approve it with any changes to the bracket
unless you, my structural engineer, can write a letter saying the modifications will not affect the
structural integrity of the building.
I've attached pictures of both sides of each bracket so you can see the notches I cut. All of the
specified SDS screws remain secured into the beam and I added 4ea-4" SDS screws to fasten the
existing floor joist to each beam to augment the attachments to the existing sill plate.
I don't think I've compromised the structural integrity of the building and hope you will agree with
me. If you can put it in writing that the notches in the column caps will not affect the structural
integrity of the storage room it will save me a lot of hassle.
