The council president elected at this meeting will serve from January 2015 through December 2016. STAFF RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUEST Conduct the council president election at council meeting of January 6, 2015, by ballot. KEY FACTS AND INFORMATION SUMMARY The Tigard City Charter states that the first meeting of each off-numbered year, the council by ballot shall choose a president from its membership. In the mayor's absence from a council meeting, the president shall perform the duties of the office of mayor and preside over it. Whenever the mayor is physically or mentally unable to perform the functions of office, the president shall act as the mayor pro tem. The city recorder will distribute ballots for councilors and the mayor to mark. The city recorder will tally the votes and announce the name of the councilor with the most votes.
