08/08/2012 - Minutes City of Tigard Library Board Minutes MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,August 8,2012 7 p.m. MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Second Floor Conference Room 1. CALL TO ORDER: At 7:01 p.m. Chair David Burke called to order the August 8,2012 Tigard Library Board. 2. ROLL CALL Chair David Burke called the roll. Present at the meeting were: David Burke,Laura Cadiz,Linda Monahan,Dan Snyder and John Storhm; Alternates Stephanie Carter and Katie Harris;Library Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Alison Grimes. Scott Hancock and Cecilia Nguyen were excused. 3. APPROVE MINUTES The Board reviewed and approved the minutes from the Wednesday,June 13, 2012 meeting. Motion—Monahan Second—Storhm Burke—Aye Cadiz—Aye Hancock—Excused Monahan-Aye Nguyen—Excused Snyder—Aye Storhm—Aye 4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS None. 5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC Bobby White,Technical Services Senior Library Assistant, joined the meeting as this month's staff guest. Starting as a volunteer, and then hired in 1979,White has a 38 year history with the Library and has worked in all three different building locations. White has seen many changes over the years; she recalled when the library first started out there were only five staff members,patrons had a three-digit library card number and overdue notices were hand-written. As a cataloger,White currently processes all the J Fiction. She enjoys being part of the Library and is very proud of the new facility. RFID UPDATE A significant portion of the collection has been tagged;Barnes estimated that only 5%of the collection remains. Ingram now tags our incoming items, saving staff time. Check-out is much quicker and the new self-check machines are working well. The new security gates also appear to be functioning well;when the alarm goes off, it is found to be due to human error,not technical issues. Staff is still receiving positive comments regarding the overall process. 7. LIBRARY OPERATIONS o Thursday's Closure—Board members noted that they had not received any comments concerning the closure. The Library has received written comments,both by email and patron comment cards. Due dates have been adjusted so that no item is due on a Thursday. o Summer Reading Program—Barnes reported that more young people signed up for Summer Reading this year than ever before. Adult registration appears to have remained about the same. o Statistics from June and July were passed out to the Board. Barnes noted that a meeting is scheduled Thursday,August 9 to discuss the condition of the second floor carpeting. Raveling in various areas, wear on the stairs and the puckers in the carpeting are points to be addressed during this meeting. She will keep the Board updated. 8. OTHER BUSINESS • LIBRARY TRENDS It was mentioned that there was a story in llillamette Meek about the Multnomah Library closure. 9. ADJOURN There being no further business,Burke adjourned the meeting at 7:53 p.m. The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board will be Wednesday, September 12 at 7 p.m. in the second floor Conference Room of the Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
