1. CALL TO ORDER:
At 7 p.m. Chair David Burke called to order the May 10,2012 Tigard Library Board.
2. ROLL CALL
Chair David Burke called the roll.
Present at the meeting were: David Burke, Laura Cadiz, Scott Hancock, Linda Monahan, Cecilia
Nguyen, Dan Snyder and John Storhm; Alternates Stephanie Carter and Katie Harris; Library
Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Alison Grimes
3. APPROVE MINUTES
The Board reviewed and approved the minutes from the Thursday, April 12, 2012 meeting.

4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
Add Future Board Meeting Schedule to Other Business.
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Amber Bell,Youth Services Librarian,
internship at TPL about a year ago and was hired shortly thereafter. Some of her duties include
preparing for and leading Fun for Ones (early literacy), Super Readers (book club for kids in grades
4 through 6), and a variety of crafts for the Weekend Adventures programs. Bell also spends time
answering questions and helping patrons at the reference desk and does collection development.
She passed around a booklet called Fingeolay Fun. Put together by WCCLS, it contains short finger
play rhymes submitted by young adult librarians from various libraries throughout the cooperative.

6. LIBRARY BUDGET
The Budget Committee has met three times so far and is scheduled for a final meeting on Monday,
May 14 at 7 p.m. Once the budget passes,beginning July 1 the Library will be closed on Thursdays.
This day was chosen as not only is it already a partial day, but it is the least busy day at the Library. No
staff at the Library was laid off,but FTEs were reduced by 4.1. Programming as well as collection
development will be decreased. A total of$817,000 was cut from the budget. To help offset the
franchise fees.
7. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Sign-up for the Summer Reading program begins June 1. RFID tagging has been completed; new
security gates are scheduled to be installed May 21. Statistics from April were distributed. Barnes
noted that she and the managers are thinking about what staff will say to patrons about the Thursday
closure. To minimize patron confusion, an overview of the closures will be placed in the June Cityscape.
An e-mail push right before the closure can also be utilized to remind patrons.
8. OTHER BUSINESS
Barnes noted that she would be out of town June 14, the 21St and possibly the 7th and asked if the
Board wished to meet on a different day or not meet until July. If the Board wished to continue to
meet on Thursday, staff would look into reserving Red Rock Conference Room at City Hall. After
discussion, the following motion was made:
Change the meeting day and date of the Tigard Library Board from the second Thursday of each
month to the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Following this, a motion was made to not meet in July.

Grimes noted that the Library Board By-
was then made to:
Amend the by-laws of the Tigard Library Board to note the change in the regularly scheduled meeting
date from the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. to the second Wednesday of each month at 7
p.m.
