11/04/2014 - Minutes City of Tigard Youth Advisory Council - Minutes MEETING DATE/TIME: Tuesday, November 4, 2014, 5:30 p.m. MEETING LOCATION: Tigard Public Library 2nd Floor Conference Room 13500 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard OR 97223 1. CALL TO ORDER This meeting was called to order at 5:38 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Carter Kruse, Caleb Torgerson, Rayman Kirby, Zach Dean, Shaun Rasmusen, Jezeth Zaragoza,Jordan Stephens, Mike Coloma, Amy Jensen, Christopher Rebolledo, Breanna Bennett, Elsa Schuman-Lanier,Joseph Murche, Maddie Joel, Nathan Ung, Zahra Hashmat, Tyler Nickla Excused members: Adam LaFountain Staff: City Manager Marty Wine 3.OLD BUSINESS: • Carter moved to approve last minute's meetings, Mike seconded the motion and the motion passed. • Halloween rooms: Congratulations on the success of the Halloween room; $40 was raised which will go to the upcoming warm clothes drive. • Website: A new website is under construction by Shaun which will be finished soon. • Monthly youth spotlight: Those who have been selected for the spotlight will be featured in the newsletter and in an article on the website. The idea of a certificate being awarded still requires discussion. • One person selected from every scholastic level (elementary, middle, high) is a possibility for the election process. Recognition could be given within the school. A recognition ceremony is a possibility. For selection, visitingthe different schools within the City of Tigard (both public and private) and asking for a recommendation is a possibility. • Shirts: Our shirts for the council will be white (possibly black) polos with a contrasting grey (possibly white) collar with the City of Tigard logo on a breast pocket and on the other side will be "City of Tigard-Youth Advisory Council". • Elections will be November 18, our next meeting. Anyone interested in getting an elected position will need to be nominated, that motion must be seconded and then that person will be voted to their position. You are not required to run for a position, and you are free to reject a nomination. Acquaint yourself with the meeting customs and parliamentary procedure. • Future TYAC projects: Youth Summit (help prepare youth for the future), service projects (warm clothing drive [bins/donation boxes], homeless youth shelter), concerts in the park, movie night in the park (safety?), spaghetti dinner/meet community need, revive DARE in elementary schools/link with Boys and Girls/middle school (What's the program? Reach to middle schools), "Love" drive or event for Main St./GSA promotion, homework mentoring/ leadership, self defense classes for youth/anti bullying training, first aid/CPR training, promoting openness/acceptance and equality for all/work in middle schools/education about words used/mentoring/honor roll breakfast (all school levels) with youth experiences. 5.
