CALL TO ORDER: Chair Scott Hancock called to order the October 8,2014 Tigard Library Board at 7:00 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present at the meeting were: Laura Cadiz, Katie Harris,Linda Monahan,John Storhm and Jan Thenell; Library Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Alison Grimes. Dan Snyder was absent. 3. APPROVE MINUTES The minutes from the June 11 Library Board were reviewed and, there being no additions or corrections, were approved as written. Motion—Harris Second—Monahan Cadiz—Aye Hancock—Aye Harris—Aye Monahan—Aye Snyder—Absent Storhm—Aye Thenell—Abstain 4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS Discussed the possibility of moving the Election of Officers to the November meeting;will discuss further when that agenda item is reached. 5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC Teresa Ferguson,Technical Services Manager,was the Library staff guest for this meeting. She gave a brief PowerPoint presentation about upcoming changes to the cataloging system. Hand-outs of the presentation were also provided. The goal is to make the catalog as simple and as user-friendly as possible by adding more meaningful data, including the implementation of RDA and less abbreviations. The end result is to benefit the public. Ferguson noted that Lori Van Deman-Iseri,Technical Services Cataloging Librarian, created and entered the first RDA record to the WCCLS catalog. 6. The floor was opened for nominations for Chairperson for the 2014-2015 year. Harris nominated Hancock for Chairman and then made a motion to close nominations for Chairman of the Library Board. Second by Monahan Cadiz—Aye Hancock—Aye Harris—Aye Monahan—Aye Snyder—Absent Storhm—Aye Thenell—Aye Motion to elect Scott Hancock as Chairman of the Tigard Library Board for the 2014-2015 year: Motion—Harris Second—Monahan Cadiz—Aye Hancock—Aye Harris—Aye Monahan—Aye Snyder—Absent Storhm—Aye Thenell—Aye The floor was then opened for nominations for Vice-Chair. Hancock nominated Harris for Vice-Chair and immediately made a motion to close nominations for Vice-Chair. Second by Thenell. AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION POLICIES REVIEW Reviewed on an annual basis,the Board once again looked over the two American Library Association policies, The Freedom to Read and the Librag Bill ofRaghtr. LIBRARY OPERATIONS Barnes discussed the circulation numbers of the two WCCLS eBook platforms—Library2Go and Overdrive. As of September,Library2Go had over 3,000 circulations and Overdrive circulated over 28,000 eBooks. Another eBook platform is now available, the 3M Cloud. Supposedly, this platform is more user- friendly than Overdrive. She also handed out the June,July,August and September statistics report for the Board's review. Barnes reported that the Library's Birthday Blast was very nice and drew a big crowd. Several Board members were also in attendance and Board Chairman Scott Hancock spoke to attendees. As usual, the library continues to be busy with programs and new members and circulation of materials remains high. 9. SCHEDULING OF AUTOMATED MATERIALS HANDLING TOUR Barnes and Joe Barrett, the City's Senior Management Analyst in Purchasing,attended the Council Work Session to give City Council members an overview of the AMH project. It is hoped that the proposal chosen by Barnes and Library managers will be awarded next week. Locally,the only two WCCLS libraries that already have AMH installed are Beaverton City Library and Hillsboro. The Board chose Wednesday,November 12 and Beaverton City Library for their AMH tour;members are to meet in Beaverton's lobby at 6:30 p.m. Barnes will double-check with Beaverton's director to make sure that date is acceptable. 10. OTHER BUSINESS o The Friends book sale will be held October 17, 18 and 19. o LIBRARY TRENDS o Barnes noted that the Nashville Public Library now has puppets and a `puppet master' on staff. The shows they put on promote reading. She also noted that the Multnomah County library's Friends joined the book faire that was held in in downtown Portland in June. 11. ADJOURN There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board will be a joint meeting with the Beaverton City Library Board on Wednesday,November 12, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at the Beaverton City Library, 12375 S.W. Fifth Street, Beaverton, OR.
