This memo is in follow up to our conversation on October 29, 2014 regarding Nedwicke
Engineering& Design detail 2/S3.R on plan set NED1431-01 dated 08/15/2014.
The detail specifies a five ply 2x4 column with a king stud on each side of the column.
In addition, 8" SDS screws are specified at 12" on-center on each side of the column.
It is my understanding the king stud on the west side of the north column was not
installed per plan due to an existing rafter obstruction. However, the screw pattern
specified along the length of the column was still installed per plan on each side of the
column.
The roof rafters on the west side of the beam provide adequate lateral stability for the
beam. Therefore, the beam/column assembly is adequate without the king stud in this
location.
