BOARD MINUTES
Thursday, May 8, 2008
Call to Order: 7:05 p.m.
Roll Call
Present at the meeting: Brian Kelly, Chair; Board members Richard Heath, Scott Libert,
Cecelia Nguyen, Jan Thenell, David Burke and Jennifer Vasicek, Alternate; Library
Director Margaret Barnes and Alison Grimes, Executive Assistant. Board member
Karen Levear was excused.
Minutes
The April 10, 2008 Board meeting minutes were reviewed and, there being no additions
or corrections, the minutes were approved as read.

Chairperson Training Workshop will be added to Other Business.
Call to the Public
Attending the meeting was Jamie Hammon, Dani Schuck and Eric Elliott. Students at
Tigard High School, they attended the Board meeting as a learning experience to fulfill
requirements for their "Senior Seminar" class.
Monthly Reports for April, 2008
Tigard Library just missed circulating 100,000 items during April (99,672).
WCCLS Update
Timing software presentations have been completed and Envisionware was chosen as
the vendor. Their software does not provide the same options for patrons the previous
vendor, Comprise, did, so Library staff will be monitoring for any issues/complaints.
Library Budget Update
The City Budget Committee has met twice with a final meeting scheduled for next week.
The Library's 2009 budget was pretty straightforward — 1 FTE and an increase in the
book budget were the main requests; the remainder maintains the level we currently
have. Barnes will have complete budget information for the Board by the June meeting.
Community Reads Update
The "Tigard Reads" kick-off for Nicole Mones book, The Last Chinese Chef, was well
attended. Board members and visitors were each given a copy which included the flyer
showing the various Chinese-themed activities planned throughout the month. As next
year marks Oregon's 150th anniversary, the book Broken Twig has already been chosen
for the state-wide read.
Other Business
• Library Trends — None
• CCI — None.
• Effective Chairperson Training Workshop — Chair Brian Kelly briefed the board
about the workshop he attended and passed around the workbook he received
from the training
• Upcoming meetings/schedules — after discussion, it was agreed by the Board to
cancel the meeting for the month of July.

The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
