7:30 Roundtable Questions
1) Several factors influence service priorities for the city, including council goals, citizen survey
results, mandated services, and demand/calls and requests for service.As a community leader,
would your priorities be different from the current alignment? If so, how might they be different?
Would they be different 10 years from now?
2) Why might citizens be resistant or unwilling to pay more for services? Under what conditions
might citizens be willing to pay more?
3) There are two circumstances that drive the need for more revenue.The first is cost growth
outstripping revenue growth for existing services.The second is funding increased demand,
deferred needs or new services. Based on the discussion this evening, how likely would citizens
be to support those service demands?
For each of the following services,please consider which of these funding sources might be appropriate:
❑ Find new,additional funding. ❑ Reallocate existing funds by reducing current services to make room.
• Deferred needs(fix and maintain buildings,maintain and replace fleet,equipment,new facilities).
• Services we offer now to accommodate increased population(current business lines).
• Services we recently cut(building hours,shift overlap in the police department,community events,library programs).
• New services(economic development,recreation,downtown association,maintenance of newly acquired park land).
• Stuff we do that people want more of(public safety services?Open hours?Service enhancements—what are those?)
