Tigard Public Library Board — Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,June 12, 2013 7 p.m.
MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Second Floor Conference Room
1. CALL TO ORDER:
At 7:00 p.m. Chair David Burke called to order the June 12,2013 Tigard Library Board.
2. ROLL CALL
Present at the meeting were: David Burke, Scott Hancock,Linda Monahan, Cecilia Nguyen,Dan Snyder
and John Storhm;Alternate Katie Harris and Stephanie Carter;Library Director Margaret Barnes and
Executive Assistant Alison Grimes. Laura Cadiz was absent.
3. APPROVE MINUTES
The Board reviewed and, there being no additions or corrections, approved the April 10, 2013 minutes as
presented.

4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
None.
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
This evening's staff guest, Xiaohong Lu,was unable to attend.
6. ANNUAL JOINT MEETING WITH CITY COUNCIL RECAP
The general consensus was that Council members enjoyed the presentation. They seemed interested in what
was said and asked questions afterwards.

Barnes told the Board that the Library has acquired e-readers that will be available for patrons to check out.
Selected book titles will already be uploaded. They will be ready for check-out July 8. DVD, except for blue
label DVDs,will circulate for three weeks beginning July 8. The April and May statistical reports were
passed out for the Board's review. Summer reading is in full swing;Barnes reminded the Board to sign up,
if they hadn't already. Themed prizes will be awarded throughout the summer. An Active Threat training
class will be given to Library and other City staff on June 26. Staff will also be given a presentation on how
to recognize abuse or neglect in the elderly.
8. LIBRARY BOARD OPENINGS
Eight applications have been received and interviews are being set up with the Mayor and the City Council
liaison to the Library Board,Councilor Jason Snider. Two termed-out seats,one other seat and the two
alternate spots will be filled. The new Board members will be appointed by City Council during their June 25``'
meeting.
9. OTHER BUSINESS
The annual Volunteer Recognition event was held Sunday,June 9. Although Nguyen was not present,
both Burke and Nguyen were recognized and Burke was presented with a book with a bookplate noting
their years of service. Barnes presented Nguyen with her book during the meeting. Burke gave a brief
recap of his speech where he spoke about starting on the Board when the Library was in the old location
and then moving to the new building and seeing the changes. Both Nguyen and Burke shared stories
about their time on the Board.
The Board then discussed their respective vacation schedules and decided to meet in July but not meet
during August. Election of Officers will be held during the September meeting.

10. ADJOURN
There being no further business,Burke adjourned the meeting at 7:38 p.m.
The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board will be Wednesday,July 10, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the second floor
Conference Room of the Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
