Specifications (2) 7/17/13 TGFU.Guidelnfo-Roofing Systems • Combustible Deck Construction: 1. Insulated roof systems certified for use over combustible deck can be used over any type of existing roof system and maintain its new construction rating. 2. Insulated roof systems certified for use over noncombustible deck may be used over any type of Class A, B or C existing roof systems. The resultant Class will be the lesser rating of the existing system or the new construction (recover) system. 3. Uninsulated multiple-layered hot mopped, cold application or modified bitumen membrane new construction systems with a base ply of Type G1 or Type G2 may be used over any existing uninsulated roof system and maintain its new construction rating. 4. Spray applied foam systems with minimum 1-1/2-in.-thick foam certified for use over noncombustible deck may be used over any type of Class A, B or C existing roof system. The resultant Class will be the lesser rating of the existing system or the new construction (recover) system. SINGLE-PLY MEMBRANE SYSTEMS (INCLUDES MODIFIED BITUMEN MEMBRANES) These roofing systems are composed of various types of membranes (such as EPDM, PVC, CSPE and modified bitumen) which are either ballasted, fully adhered or mechanically attached. Certified insulation may be utilized, as well as various coatings, splicing adhesives, lap sealants and caulking materials. See the individual certifications for designations of products and application rates for various components. Unless otherwise required, granules or sand may be optionally applied to any coating. SPRAY-APPLIED FOAM AND COATING SYSTEMS These roofing systems are composed of a foam, formed by the simultaneous spraying of two liquid components to a nominal thickness, covered with a cold-application coating system to form a protective covering. Surfacing materials, such as sand or No. 11 roofing granules, may be embedded in the coating while wet. See the individual certifications for designation of products, foam thickness and application rates for the coatings involved. Unless otherwise required, granules or sand may be optionally applied to any coating. PHOTOVOLTAIC(SOLAR)MODULES Photovoltaic(solar) modules are composed of flat-plate photovoltaic module/panels when installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. These coverings have also been investigated to ANSI/1.11, 1 7 0 3, "Flat-Plate Photovoltaic Modules and Panels"; see Photovoltaic Modules and Panels (QIGU). OTHER SYSTEMS These systems cover products such as building units used in specific Class A, B or C roofing systems. Building units may consist of composite insulation boards, metal-faced insulation panels or insulating material, faced on top and bottom with metal or plastic reinforced glass fiber skins which are intended for direct application to rafters or puffins. The structural aspects of these materials have not been investigated. See the individual certifications for the specific system details. ABBREVIATIONS AND TERMS USED IN CERTIFIED ROOFING SYSTEMS DESCRIBED FOR INDIVIDUAL MANUFACTURERS Decks-Noncombustible = NC;combustible(includes noncombustible)= C. (Suffix number indicates the minimum thickness of plywood). Maximum incline in inches to the horizontal foot = Incline, "x"(in.). Inclines sufficient to permit drainage = Incline-no limitation. Per 100 square feet = Per sq. Application rates for mineral surfacings and liquid components shall be a number indicating either lbs or gals per square. Minimum surfacings in a flood coat of hot roofing asphalt or coal tar pitch: • 400 lbs gravel per square= gravel • 400 lbs crushed stone per square=crushed stone • 300 lbs slag per square= slag Application rates differing from the above are indicated in the individual certifications. Any other surfacing materials used are described on individual certifications with type and application rates specified. Where indicated in the individual certifications, products covered under this category have also been evaluated by ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES). REQUIREMENTS The basic standard used to investigate products in this category is ANSI/UL 790, "Tests for Fire Resistance of Roof Covering Materials." Some of the products specified in these systems are covered in UL 55A, "Materials for Built-Up Roof Coverings." UL MARK Two methods of labeling are provided for this material: (1) Each bundle, package or container bears the Certification Mark, and (2) a Certificate is issued to the interested parties. This Certificate is prepared for each construction site that the manufacturer supplies. The use of the Certificate is optional when each bundle, package or container bears the Certification Mark but, in all cases, is restricted to material shipped directly from the manufacturer to a construction site. The Certification Mark of UL on the bundle, package or container is the only method provided by UL to identify products manufactured under its Certification and Follow-Up Service. The Certification Mark for these products includes the UL symbol, the words "CERTIFIED" and "SAFETY," the geographic identifier(s), and a file number. Additional Certification Markings Products covered under this category are additionally marked with the following information: CERTIFIED AS TO EXTERNAL FIRE EXPOSURE The following statement may be included where appropriate: ALSO CERTIFIED AS TO IMPACT RESISTANCE SEE UL ONLINE CERTIFICATIONS DIRECTORY Alternate UL Mark Two methods of labeling are provided for this material: (1) Each bundle, package or container bears the Classification Mark, (2) a Certificate is issued to the interested parties.
