The following information is required prior to issuance of a Mechanical Permit. 1. Provide equipment cut sheets along with Oregon Department of energy forms. The cut sheets shall include unit weight, cfm, btu rating, energy efficiency rating. 2. Permanent equipment supported by the structure, 400 lbs and over, shall have their attachments designed in accordance with the Building Code. 301.16 OMSC. See section 1632.1 of the Oregon Structural Specialty code for design formulas. Provide calculations for all equipment exceeding 400 lbs. 3. RTU -3, RTU -4 are ACCU -2 are within 10 feet of the edge of the building. If the parapet wall is not 42 inches higher than the roof deck, a 42 inch high guard will be required. Section 304.9 OMSC. The cross sections do not indicate parapet wall heights in relation to roof decks in these locations. The guards are required. 4. Duct smoke detectors have not been indicated on the drawings. Smoke detectors shall be installed in return air systems with a design capacity greater than 2000 cfm. Revise the drawings to indicate the duct detectors. 5. A kiln is indicated on sheet M2.1C in storage room C108. The kiln is required to be listed and installed in accordance with the listing. If the kiln is not listed, it shall be installed in accordance with section 923.2 OMSC. Is the kiln listed? 13125 SW Hall Blvd., Tigard, OR 97223 (503) 639 -4171 TDD (503) 684 -2772 6. Clarify makeup air for the kitchen grease hood. The makeup air shall be connected to the exhaust hood in such a manner that the hood will not operate until makeup air is provided. Section 508.1 OMSC 7. Cleanouts are required to be spaced not more than 20 feet apart. Section 506.3.11 OMSC. The horizontal duct run serving the exhaust hood in the kitchen, scales at approximately 30 feet. Provide adequate cleanouts. When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City of Tigard in tracking and processing the documents. "Provide equipment cut sheets ..." a. Cut sheets for the equipment used as the basis for design are attached. b. Cut sheets for the actual equipment provided will be submitted by the Mechanical Sub - contractor to the City prior to the issuance of the Mechanical Permit. 2. "Permanent equipment.... attachments ... calculations and attachment details for all equipment exceeding 400 lbs." a. Per Specification Sections 15140 and 15240, equipment attachment design, details and calculations are the responsibility of the Contractor. These will be submitted by the Mechanical Sub - contractor to the City prior to the issuance of the Mechanical Permit. 3. "RTU -3, RTU -4 and ACCU -2 are within 10 feet of the edge of the building.... guards are required." a. RTU -4 and ACCU -2 are moved to provide 10 feet clearance to the edge of roof, see attached RM -1, RM -2 and RM -3. b. All access panels for RTU -3 have a working distance in front that exceeds 10 feet to the roof edge. Diagonal distance from the corner of the unit is approximately 8 feet. RTU -3 unit supplied by the Contractor may be shorter than the unit used as the basis for design. We request that the City accept this as meeting the requirements of the Code. S E L I G / L E E / R U E D A A R C H I T E C T S + P L A N N E R S , L L C 4. "Duct smoke detectors ... shall be installed in return air systems . . ." a. The OMSC 606.2.1 permits by exception the omission of duct detection from the return air system "where the space served by the air distribution system is protected by a system of area smoke detectors in accordance with the building code." We request that the City allow this exception for the omission of smoke detectors, see Electrical Drawings and Specifications for area smoke detection design. 5. "A kiln is indicated on sheet M2.1C in storage room C108.... Is the kiln listed ?" a. The kiln is a Skutt KM -1227, UL listed 220 -K. It is owner furnished and is to be installed by the contractor per manufacturer's instructions. b. The scope of the mechanical work shown on Drawing sheet M2.1C, is to provide ductwork for connection to the kiln ventilation fan. The fan is integral with the kiln and is not provided by the mechanical contractor. 6. "Clarify makeup air for the kitchen grease hood." a. Makeup air is provided by roof top package unit RTU -4 through terminal unit TU -4 -103, which serves the kitchen area. Exhaust fan EF -8 serves the kitchen hood. The DDC control system will start and stop both EF -8 and RTU -4 on the same schedule, see Specification Section 15950, paragraph 3.2. b. OMSC 508.1 requires "electronic interlock" between make up air source and exhaust. We request that the City accept the DDC programming as the interlock between these devices. 7. "Cleanouts are required to be spaced not more than 20 feet apart.... Provide adequate cleanouts." a. The Contract Document Drawings are diagrammatic in nature and may not necessarily reflect the configuration of the installed ductwork. b. Drawing M3.1C, keyed note 8, calls out the grease hood ductwork, and requires the contractor to "Provide construction and cleanouts in accordance with the International Mechanical Code with Oregon Amendments (Latest Addition)." This note requires the Contractor to provide appropriate cleanouts at 20 foot intervals and at all elbows. If there are any questions or required revisions to the statements above, please do not hesitate to call me at 503- 224 -0173. cc.
